A Mother (Poem)
The Bible is replete with heroes called mothers,
from different cultures, backgrounds and faith.
Some mothers suffered
throughout their motherhood,
While others were happy
felt blessed and wonderful.
Yet one thing common to all of them
They obeyed God’s will, and accepted the call.
In the beginning, after man’s great Fall
You’d think that Eve will flee and fade
Although they left their home in Eden
A brand new family, they started and molded.
They toiled and laboured as was the consequence
And tried so hard to raise good children
To nurture and care with all their best
Embraced them both with love without limits.
While other women were blessed with many
There were a number who have to wait
Not just for weeks and months ahead
But even for so many years.
They suffered comparisons, they lost their confidence
Yet there are lessons we learn from these
That when we persevere, pray and trust,
In God’s own time, the answer will come at last.
Sometimes circumstances put women to test
Though it’s sad and hard, they must persist,
To bear a child no matter the cost,
rejection and despair, pain and loss.
God looks on Hagar and mothers like her
He loves each one, His grace overflows
He’ll put a smile on every face
The darkest nights, He’ll turn to days.
And who would have thought that a simple Mary
Would turn out to be the blessed woman
To carry out the Promise of a begotten Son
Come live in this world, both Divine and human.
This miracle of miracles, so lovely and sweet
It’s a great surprise, it’s surely perfect
Yet Mary had to first endure
The rumor mill, the shame and talks.
The miracle of motherhood, so amazing and wonderful
Elizabeth and Hannah were good examples
Their children became the testimonies
Of their heartfelt plea and of God’s faithfulness.
Some seeds of doubt may have entered their hearts
But trust prevailed and prayers were answered
They praised and honoured the Maker, and Friend
Who gives to all until the very end.
When God created mothers,
He made man understand
The gift of life that we receive
Comes from the Only One.
With love He gave a bundle for some,
To others even more than one
Yet though we may not bear any
There are so many needy ones.
For it is through all families
we demonstrate God’s love ,
Within our homes, outside of it,
at work, and everywhere.
A mother is God’s unseen hands,
His heart, His thoughts and joys
And then as well, with fathers, too
His plans, He will fulfill.
We hope that we could love like Him
With love, so pure and true,
If not here now, then in the earth made new.
