“What Are You Doing Here?”

“10 So he said, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I alone am left; and they seek to take my life.”

11 Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; 12 and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire, a still small voice.

13 So it was, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. Suddenly a voice came to him, and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

~1 Kings 19:10 -13 NKJV

As we stand on the threshold of a new year, let us reflect on the story of Elijah, how the Lord revealed Himself to him: not amidst the chaos of strong winds, a mighty earthquake, and blazing fire. God was not in these dramatic displays. Instead, He revealed Himself in a still, small voice—gentle, quiet, and full of purpose.

In much the same way, as we turn the page from 2024, with its storms of trials, moments of upheaval, and the fiery challenges we faced, let us pause and find calm. The past—its choices, struggles, and victories—is now behind us. What lies ahead is an invitation to stillness, a chance to reflect and hear that same gentle whisper of God.

Like the new moon rising, the New Year offers a fresh start, a blank page waiting to be written. Let us leave behind what weighs us down and step into 2025 with hearts tuned to His voice. In the stillness, may we find clarity, direction, and the courage to walk the path He has prepared for us.

This New Year, may we embrace the gift of quiet reflection, seek His guidance, and walk forward with faith and hope.

At the opening of the cave of 2025, the Lord asks you and me, “What are you doing here?”
